Though I never physically spoke to him, I felt there was something "off" about his vibe and I just couldn't put my finger on it. I didn't take to him the way I did the other guys like DavidD, Will, and a couple of other guys I met that teach this stuff. I also at the time didn't take to Papa either. He didnt' seem too confident to me and he seemed a bit timid so I felt I couldn't trust him (this is not to say I was any more confident at the time. In fact, I was a complete mess.)
Fast forward to '05, I read the game and I read about Tyler and the "beef" that had with him. When I read about what descirbed about Tyler being robotic, stiff, almost inhuman and kind of a "schemer", a lightbulb went off in my head and I was like "THAT'S IT! THAT'S THE VIBE I GOT FROM HIM AND THAT'S WHY I FELT I COULDN'T TRUST HIM!" It really clicked for me what was talking about because I had met Tyler personally and didn't take to him. I felt the description was accurate about Papa as well.
Fast forward again to '06, a local PUA meeting that they had in New York City the first Sunday of every month, and Tyler was a guest. I came in late and when I sat down I saw Tyler and he says "What's up" and gives me a pound. I noticed that there was a WHOLE DIFFERENT vibe about him. He seemed much more cool, laid back and personable. It looked like he had come more into himself and was a lot more comfortable in his own skin. When he spoke in front of the for about 20 minutes, what he said definitely reflected the growth he made as an individual. I came up to him at the end of the meeting and I shook his hand and told him that he definitely had grown since the last time I saw him at the D*Y*D seminars back in '04 and he seemed much more personable and less robotic. He thanked me and told me that reading "The Game" opened his eyes to who he was at the time and was what helped him to grow.
I respect any man that can be honest with himself about the criticism he receives and takes what he needs from it to learn and grow. Tyler definitely did that.
I also met on a separate occasion (beginning of '08) and to me he was pretty cool and personable as well. His girlfriend's twin sister wound up being into me and asking for my number, but I wound up efing that up (that's another story.) I talked to him about Tyler and what he said said about him in the book, and my impressions of Tyler when I first met him and the change I noticed in him a couple of years later was genuinely surprised and looked almost incredulous. He said he wouldn't know because he hadn't spoken to him since the ending of the book.
Additionally, I met one of the Playboys in the book from NY who didn't have too many kind things to say about Tyler in the book and exposed to the whole "plot" against him in Project Hollywood. He also was surprised when I told him the change I saw in Tyler and clearly didn't believe me. It looked like he still held something against Tyler.
If you go to one particular site, by a guy named T*hunder*cat, who was also in "The Game", you'd notice that a good portion of his site is dedicated to him hating on Tyler and RSD. To me, the guy just sounds bitter and needs to let go. The guy doesn't seem to want to acknowledge Tyler's growth and the value that he and his company provides to many people looking for answers. Of course, not everyone is going to be completely satisfied with a service or product rendered by a company, but if you look at this site, read the success stories, etc, one can clearly see that this company has positively touched the lives of many, many people, and the staff of RSD mean well. The fact that this guy continues year after year to say that RSD sucks, continues to say that people are unsatisfied with it's bootcamps, and continues to put down it's products shows me that there is something going on with this guy. F**k him!
So, judging from my initial experience with Tyler, and having met some of these guys who had bad experiences with him, and read this dude Th*under*cat's blog, I have to say indeed the book must've been true. However, the important thing is that Tyler has grown since then, so....who cares?
